Substance staffer shows work in the Oak Park Art League's "The Aesthetic of our National Identity"
Retired teacher Jo-Anne Cairo is among several artists showing work at the Oak Park Art League's exhibition "The Aesthetic of our National Identity," which opened July 7 and runs through August 3 at 720 Chicago Ave., Oak Park.
"The hope is that through art, our shared experiences and expressions will help us find a wider perspective and understanding of one another in our mutual national identity," according to the OPAL description of the show. "There are so many individual viewpoints of who we are as a nation and what it means to be a citizen and what rights are included. Many times, it is artists who are asked to tell their stories and the stories of others who have lost their voice or who are afraid to speak."
The gallery hours are 1 - 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 1 - 4 p.m. on Saturday.
