'Let Sarah teach!' rally scheduled for April 18 at Saucedo, Saucedo Academy, 2850 W 24th Blvd in Chicago in protest against CPS suspension of the leader in the fight for special education and against high-stakes testing...
Saucedo students and parents will be helping lead the protest "Let Sarah teach!" on April 18 at the school.Supporters of Sarah Chambers including students, former students, parents, and CTU members, are expected to gather at Saucedo Elementary School on Tuesday, April 18, 2017, after school at four p.m. in a "Let Sarah teach!" rally. Sarah Chambers was informed from her teaching job at Saucedo the day before Spring Break. CPS officials said that she was being suspended from her teaching job for reasons that CPS officials refuse to disclose. Chambers is a leader in the fight for special education in Chicago and has been co-chair of the Chicago Teachers Union's special education task force. She has also been a leader in Chicago's Opt Out movement against the PARCC test, which has been on shaky ground nationally for years, while CPS officials have tried to bully children and families into taking the test anyway.
Saucedo Elementary School (called an "Academy" on the strange jargon of CPS) is located at Saucedo Academy, 2850 W 24th Blvd.
Supporters have been spreading word about the April 18 event on social media. "As many of you heard," wrote Isaac Perlman on April 16, "Sarah was suspended before spring break.
