ANATOMY OF THE SELLOUT... CTU leadership postpones membership vote on the Tentative Agreement (the "TA") until Halloween and All Saints Day because of delays in providing copies of the TA to most of the members...
As criticisms of the Tentative Agreement (the "TA") approved by the Chicago Teachers Union's negotiating teams and recommended by one of the narrowest votes in history by the CTU House of Delegates grow from mumbles into a roar across the city, the CTU leadership announced by email on the evening of October 25, 2016, that the vote on the deal would be postponed. Instead of voting on October 27 and 28, as had been scheduled, the leaders now say that the vote will take place on Halloween (October 31) and All Saints Day (November 1).
The explanation given was that copies of the TA have been lacking for many members.
THE CTU EMAIL ANNOUNCING THE CHANGE CAME ON CTU LETTERHEAD ON THE EVENING OF OCTOBER 25...
The Chicago Teachers Union leadership has decided to postpone the vote on the Tentative Agreement for two days in order to ensure that all members have an opportunity to read a printed copy of the TA in hand and the entire weekend to review it before making an informed vote. The printed copies of the TA will be delivered to schools, along with ballot materials and instructions, on Thursday and Friday, October 27 and 28. Members will have the opportunity to review the printed copies over the weekend and vote in their schools Monday and Tuesday, October 31 and November 1.
The CTU officers want to hear from our members and answer any questions about this agreement before the vote. CTU has been hosting a series of regional meetings where members can ask questions and voice concerns.
The last of these four meetings will be:
