'Wear Red For Karen' on Fridays, CTU says... 'I’ll continue to stand for the city we love and deserve; and look forward to joining you again on the battlefield...' Lewis tells union's members
Following the announcement that Chicago Teachers Union President Karen Lewis is out of the hospital and resting at home, the Chicago Teachers Union on Thursday, October 16, issued a bulletin headlined "Wear Red For Karen" on Fridays. Since the June 2010 election of Karen Lewis and the CORE leadership to head the nation's third largest pre-K to 12 teacher union, the "Red Fridays" have been a feature of union strength and solidarity.

"Knowing that our members and supporters are united in every school throughout the city will bring her peace of mind, hearing that our union stands ready to keep this movement strong. Tomorrow, Friday, wear red to show you support Karen and are keeping her health in your thoughts and prayers. As President Lewis said yesterday, 'While I’m in this fight, please know I’ll continue to stand for the city we love and deserve; and look forward to joining you again on the battlefield.'”
