RAHMWATCH: '...Mayor Emanuel will attend an academic and community center ribbon cutting...' but we won't tell you where! Rahm's press praetorians keep the day's public appearance secret as long as possible
The massive propaganda squad that accompanies Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel on his daily rounds about town costs the taxpayers more than a million dollars a year. The jobs of the workers in the "Mayor's Press Office" is to stage carefully orchestrated publicity stunts where Rahm can do a photo op surrounded by smiling black and brown children while anyone who disagrees with the mayor is kept a block away by police and the mayor's praetorian propagandists.
The announcement for the last day of September 2014 was typical. At three in the morning, the press was informed to be ready for an afternoon media event featuring Rahm -- but not told where. According to the "Mayor's Press Office" "Mayor Emanuel will attend an academic and community center ribbon cutting..." Time: 1:30PM, Location: TBA?* *There will be no media availability following.
"No media availability means that Rahm's phalanx of propagandists will rush him away from the reporters without allowing any questions. Chicago's mayor prefers to do his publicity stunts in a well controlled environment, helped by his Hollywood pals like those who produced the CNN bomb "Chicagoland" instead of facing the real people of the real Chicago.
As time goes on and the February 24, 2015 election grows closer, the contrast between Rahm Emanuel's fear of democracy and his two main rivals grows. Karen Lewis and Bob Fioretti are almost always open to reporters and members of the public. Rahm is hiding from the people and trying to control every bit of TV footage that emerges in Chicago. And spending a fortune of taxpayer dollars on it.

Although Rahm Emanuel can't tell a reporter anything about the Chicago White Sox without using his telephone to get answers from his aides, the mayor even jumped into the final days of Chicago White Sox star Paul Konerko's retirement. On September 29, 2014, the "Mayor's Press Office" issued the following:

STATEMENT FROM MAYOR RAHM EMANUEL ON PAUL KONERKOS RETIREMENT FROM THE CHICAGO WHITE SOX
"Few players have displayed the class, resolve, and grit that Paul Konerko has shown in his 16 years with the White Sox, and yesterday's tribute was fitting for someone who has given so much joy to so many in our city. Chicagoans thank Paul Konerko for his leadership and honor his tremendous career as he takes the field one last time. Today all Chicago with one voice is chanting 'Paulie, Paulie, Paulie.' "
