Roseland 'drive by' wasn't a drive by, but the Haley student was killed by one of his companions (who must have missed the restorative justice session about not carrying around a gun)
Two days ago, the media reported that a 15-year-old (later identified as a student at Haley Elementary School) was killed in the Roseland community in a "drive by shooting." Turns out NOT. Here is the police update from a few hours ago on the arrest of the shooter, who was one of the fellow students of the deceased and standing with him. Turns out the shooter decided to open fire on a vehicle and hit his buddy instead.
The Chicago Police Department's News Affairs release about the arrest in the Roseland shooting. The reason the photograph of the shooter is not there is that he is only 15 years old. The story was originally reported in the press as a "drive by," but it turns out the shooter is a friend of the guy he shot while aiming at someone else. Both were overage students at Haley Elementary School, according to reports.HERE IS FROM THE POLICE THIS MORNING:
Offender Charged in Connection with Murder of 15-Year-Old
Offender: Male Juvenile, 15
Charges: First Degree Murder
Possession of Ammunition W/O Valid FOID
Murder – Other Forcible Felony
Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm – Occupied Vehicle
Narrative: A 15-year-old male juvenile was identified as the person who
shot and killed a 15 -year old male on the 300 Block of W.116th
St. on May 11, 2014 at approximately 3:40 p.m. The victim was
standing on the street with the offender when a vehicle drove
by. The victim pointed out the vehicle to the offender who then
fired shots at the vehicle. One of the shots struck and killed the
victim.
Note for teacher readers. Both the deceased and the shooter in this one were public school students, and probably gang members. At least one of them was carrying a gun on the streets during after school play time. The incident took place less than a half mile from Fenger High School and the site (on 111th St.) where Derrion Albert was murdered. But I have a hunch that the Mayor of Chicagoland and the former Community Organizer for Roseland are going to stay away from this one. (More on the Fenger fraud later).
