CTU Financial Secretary Kristine Mayle, a special ed teacher, will also be in Lake Michigan... Rahm to take Polar Plunge March 2 with teachers greeting him

What? 14th Annual Special Olympics Chicago (SOC) Polar Plunge

Where? North Avenue Beach located at 1603 N. Lakeshore Drive

When? Sunday, March 2, 2014 from 9:00 AM until 2:00 PM Who? CTU, Chicago's mayor, and hundreds of others!

Why? To benefit the Special Olympics.

Substance has already reported that CTU is sponsoring a team, presently reported as the second largest team participating. Financial Secretary Kristine Mayle is leading the team; Staff Coordinator Jackson Potter is also on the team. Overall donations for the CTU team are close to $6,000 at this time. (Donations can be made at the ctunet.org website. Search for Polar Plunge and follow the links.)

North Avenue Beach in Chicago will be the location where Rahm and the teachers meet for the Polar Plunge.Who else is scheduled to take the plunge? According to Susan Nicholl, Executive Director of Special Children’s Charities, Mayor Rahm Emanuel is expected to take the plunge. Expected to take the plunge with him are: Brian Bannon, Library Commissioner; and Mike Kelly, General Superintendent and CEO at Chicago Park District. (See previous report on this February Substance page about the promise made regarding last summer’s library program - that Mayor Emanuel would take the plunge if the children of Chicago read 2 million books; they read 2.1 million.).

Hopefully there will be a Sea of Red along Lake Michigan’s blue supporting CTU’s team taking the Polar Plunge for Special Olympics Chicago on March 2…

As of February 24, 2014, he Polar Plunge was still not listed on the webpage calendar of CPS’s "Office of Diverse Learner Supports and Services (ODLSS)", which is what the administration of Barbara Byrd Bennett has named the special education department of America's third largest school system. And, remaining as reported previously, if you click on the exact link for Special Olympics Chicago (after first clicking on World Sport Chicago) via the ODLSS website page, you will not obtain any information about Special Olympics Chicago. Do not be confused by the words on the website link: Bei Interesse, Klicken Sie HIER! Translation: If interested, click here! That is for if you wish to purchase the domain you arrive on via the CPS ODLSS Special Olympics Chicago link (which has nothing to do with SOC), not to learn anything about or donate to Special Olympics Chicago. Special Olympics can be contacted via many other means, but not through Chicago's public schools.

During the final week of February 2014, Mayor Rahm Emanuel has been utilizing his status as America's celebrity mayor among the "one percent" to challenge other celebrities in an unusual macho manner. On February 24, some corporate media reported that Rahm had succeeded in getting Jimmy Fallon, the new late night host, to join him.
