CTU declares solidarity as Mount Prospect teachers prepare to strike
As school boards across the USA continue to try and break the teachers' unions at the local level, while trying to buy off state and national leaders, another relatively small union local in Illinois is poised to strike, and the huge Chicago Teachers Union is preparing to support them. On Friday, January 31, 2014, the Chicago Teachers Union issued the following brief press release in support of the planned strike by teachers in Mount Prospect, a suburb of Chicago.

CHICAGO - The Chicago Teachers Union (CTU) stands in solidarity with our brothers and sisters in Mount Prospect Public School District 57 in their fight for a fair contract. Mount Prospect teachers' efforts in negotiating fair salaries and tackling issues of teacher evaluation and layoffs mirror the struggles the CTU has in its own district, and the union is proud of them for taking a stand for their rights.
"By mobilizing and declaring their intent to strike, they're saying they've had enough," CTU President Karen GJ Lewis said of the Mount Prospect teachers. "Their struggle is shared, and we support them in efforts to restore dignity and respect for our profession and to ensure their students have the supports they need in the classroom."
