Bears player again promotes privatization and union busting via robo-calling for Saturday's 'New Schools Expo'
Once again this year, every parent of a CPS student is getting a robo-call from CPS featuring a pitch by Israel Idonoje of the Chicago Bears that we go to the "New Schools Expo" promoting charter schools. Idonoje's voice came over the phone this morning at about 11:00 telling my family how the "New Schools Expo" on Saturday was where we should be.

The annual "New Schools Expo" has become a virtual charter schools and privatization orgy since its humble beginnings six years ago at Williams Elementary School on the near South Side. It is heavily promoted among inner city parents, while massive publicity proclaims that "choice" is what is needed — choice in the form of charter schools. Virtually no real public schools are part of the "New Schools Expo" no matter how unique of novel their programs. The activity is to promote anti-union charter schools for Chicago.
This year's New Schools Expo is being held, again, at Soldier Field's United Airlines Lounge, with free parking. It is taking place all day Saturday. Last year, the Bears told Substance that Idonije's participation in the event was not officially a Bears position.
