Chicago Board of Education to deny speakers' rights to anyone who can't get to a computer to register on line
The Chicago Board of Education has announced that members of the public who wish to speak to the Board during its monthly meetings will have to register on line — and will not be able to sign up to speak any other way after the Board's December meeting. "As of January, 2013, only advance registration will be available for Public Participation," the Board states. At the November 14, 2012 meeting, the Board issued the following statement:
From the November 9, 2012 BOE packet:
"Please note there is a new process for Public Participation registration. Visit www.cpsboe.org for more information. Revised Public Participation Guidelines will be available for the November 14th Board Meeting.
"For the November 14, 2012 Board Meeting, advance registration was opened on November 5th at 8:00 a.m. and will end on November 9th at 5:00 p.m. by the following methods.

"Also, for the November 14th, 2012 Board Meeting, same day registration will be available for remaining speaking slots between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. on the 1st floor of the Clark Street Lobby.
