Thousands of striking Chicago teachers and their supporters marched through downtown Chicago on September 13, 2012, the fourth day of the Chicago Teachers Stirke of 2012, to protest sweetheart tax deals given to the Hyatt Hotel chain, which is owned in a large part by the city’s Pritzker family. Rahm Emanuel appointed heiress Penny Pritzker to the Chicago Board of Education in May 2011. The march, one of dozens held across the city during the first week of the strike, targeted the cynical tax breaks given to Chicago's wealthiest families and corporation, one of the reasons why there is supposedly no money for the public schools.
