MEDIA WATCH: TIME gets it very very wrong on Rahm's Longer School Day lies
Anyone who thinks that Chicago's corporate media are the only ones who deliberately get it wrong on key facts about corporate "school reform" will be disappointed that Time magazine continues its long traditions as a part of the propaganda of the plutocracy with a brief insert of misinformation about Chicago's Longer School Day flap. In its current issue, Time repeats the Rahm Emanuel talking point about Chicago having had the "shortest school day" in the USA before Rahm's "reform."
A Substance reader noted that Time managed to get two major facts wrong in one brief paragraph reporting on behalf of Rahm Emanuel's spin machine the "Longer School Day" and the "Longer School Year" in Chicago. In its current issue, Time claims that Rahm's push for the Longer School Day added "75 minutes" to what Time declares was "the shortest school year in the U.S." Wrong twice, but who can tell Time what reality is?
Those of us with long memories can play back the nonsense Time published in the 1950s and 1960s to help manipulate what was called "public opinion" in favor of the Vietnam War, which cost more than a million Vietnamese lives and many more than the 58,000 American lives of those who died directly in combat while wearing the uniforms of the United States during the official years of that war. (Fact: Suicides during and after the Vietnam War among active duty U.S. military people and veterans were just as high as they are now, but were erased from the history books, just as so much else will be erased with the help of Time's disinformation today. For more information, a beginner can see the film "Sir No Sir!" about the G.I. anti-war movement during the Vietnam War, the reality that gave rise to the beginning of Substance in 1975...).
