AFT REPORTS: Early childhood resolutions passed at convention

The AFT Educational Issues Committee introduced two resolutions regarding early childhood education. Resolution 3 Digital Learning in K-12 Instruction was changed to Digital Learning in PreK-12 instruction. Line 145 specifically states: States should regulate PreK-1 non-profit and for-profit providers to ensure that vital funds are not being taken from the communities they are meant to serve. Line 167 covered Union-District Collaboration on Technology Implementation in PreK-12 instruction. This resolution passed.

Resolution 7: Promote Early Literacy Curriculum was also passed. This resolution states that AFT will support locals in the development of common early learning standards, support training, recruitment and retention of a qualified early child care workforce and develop and promote professional development. Illinois is one of the few states that with Early Learning Standards in place. These standards align with the Illinois State Learning Standards and include literacy, math, science, social studies, fine arts, physical development, health and foreign language.

AFT does not have a seperate committee for Early Childhood Education.
