Parent groups support Chicago Teachers Union at Board of Education's monthly meeting
A number of parents and at least three legitimate grass roots parent organizations spoke out (or signed up) to speak out at the June 27, 2012 meeting of the Chicago Board of Education in support of the broader demands being raised by the Chicago Teachers Union during the current contract negotiations. Prior to the meeting, the parents held a well-attended press conference outside the Board headquarters to reiterate their support for the city's union teachers.

Stone.At the press conference, parents leaders told the assembled reporters that the Board of Education's refusal to negotiate on class size and other quality of school life issues was a major problem. Speaking for the group "Parents 4 Teachers" at the news conference, the parents made it clear that they were challenging the leadership of CPS under Jean-Claude Brizard and the seven members of the Board of Education to agree to talk about the issues raised in the now widely circulated CTU publication "The Schools Chicago's Students Deserve."
Albert Brito, a student at Roosevelt High School and a member of the Albany Park Neighborhood Council, spoke at both the Parents 4 Teachers news conference outside of the Chicago Board of Education headquarters and at the monthly Board meeting inside later that same day. He said his teachers truly care about students, and the Board should open up contract negotiations to include ideas the Chicago Teachers Union has for improving schools.
