October 25 Forum on extended school day to include CTU officer and Raise Your Hand
Organizers for a community forum on the extended school day in Chicago have sent out invitations for upcoming events. For the October 25, 2011 event (to take place at Bethel Lutheran Church, 130 N. Keeler at 6:30 p.m.), the following was circulated:

TUESDAY – Parents, Leaders Come Together to Weigh in on CPS Extended School Day
Public Panel Discussion on “CPS Extended Day” to bring parents, CPS, CTU and community members together to discuss controversial public issue
What: The Raise Your Hand Coalition, a Chicago-based coalition of parents working together to improve the quality of public education, is partnering with the Progressive Action Coalition for Education (PACE), the Lawndale Alliance, The Black Star Project and Austintalks.org to host an informational meeting and interactive panel discussion this Tuesday, October 25th to engage parents and stakeholders across the city on the longer school day issue. The panel will be moderated by Alex Lyons of PACE. Panelists will include:

Media Set Up: Doors open for media set up at 6:00 p.m.
Why: The topic of “extending the school day” is heating up for Chicago Public Schools. Raise Your Hand and PACE have joined together to ensure that the parent voice is heard. Interactive discussion topics will include the importance of QUALITY of time, FUNDING, SUSTAINABILITY and IMPLEMENTATION as critical considerations in concert with QUANTITY of time as decisions are made for 2012-13 school year. CTU and CPS representatives will also be present to answer questions.
