Daley administration continues destruction of public schools as new school year begins
While proclaiming to the corporate media and at the August 25, 2010, meeting of the Chicago Board of Education that he only wants the best teachers in front of Chicago's 417,000 public school students as the opening day of school looms in the nation's third largest school system, Chicago public schools Chief Executive Officer Ron Huberman continued massive layoffs and cutbacks of teachers and other school workers. The elimination of more than 1,000 teachers since June 1, coupled with other cuts in the local schools, virtually guarantees that the schools will open with widespread disruption when all of the students are back in class during the week following Labor Day 2010. One-third of the city's public school students began school in August, thanks to the "Track E" scheduling, but the remaining two-thirds begin September 7, the day after Labor Day.
