Substance News on the Web had more than two million hits during 2009
On January 1, 2009, Substance went live on the Web at www.substancenews.net following six months of development (and partial Web activity) at our "new" Website. The old site (www.substancenews.com) is still being supported until we can move content over to the "new" site. Our severely challenged budget required that we simply create the "new" site because we could not re-program form the format of the "old" site. Hopefully, this murky explanation is enough to make access for our readers as clear as possible, and that those who want to go "back" to 2002 can visit substancenews.com to do so, scanning back issues.
After the final tallies of traffic for www.substancenews.net we provided to us by our Web hosts, we can report the following:
Total Unique Visitors: 56,867
Visits: 102,284
Pages: 358,045
Hits: 2,364,338
We cannot compare these numbers to any other sites primarily serving Chicago's public education communities, but we believe they are fairly substantial in the "market" we serve.
Happy New Year to our ever expanding number of readers and subscribers.
Substance is supported completely by donations and by print edition subscriptions. The print edition of Substance is published ten times per year and mailed at Periodicals Rate to all paid subscribers.
Anyone can subscribe to the print edition by sending a check ($16 payable to Substance) to Substance, 5132 W. Berteau, Chicago, IL 60641. You can also subscribe on line (button to the right here), but we take a hit of one or two dollars for every on line subscription using Visa or Master card (the banks get their fees -- that's a plural -- but we provide this service to our subscribers because on line commerce is an important part of current reality).
